From the 1980s to the early 2000s video cassettes of primarily pirated action, fantasy and horror films were screened in video clubs throughout rural and urban Ghana. To advertise these films, sign painters and artists were hired to create a poster that enticed the general public to purchase tickets. these paintings were created on 50 kilo flour sacks. with artists utilizing various paint mediums including spray, oil, acrylic and airbrush, the outcome and style of each poster is different than the last. The artist, “MR BREW” is a celebrated artist from this tradition.
